Restoring Africa’s Healthcare System

The G.H.M. Media & Expo Approach

Post date: Feb 14, 2023 | Virginia, US

Introduction

Africa is a beautiful continent with a rich culture and a vibrant population. However, the gaps in its healthcare system leave much to be desired. As an emerging market, Africa is at the forefront of global economic growth, but it still suffers from a lack of healthcare infrastructure and an aging population.

Today, Africa is home to about 1.2 billion people. By 2050, that number is expected to increase to 2 billion people. The rapid growth of the population will lead to increased demand for healthcare services, which may not be able to keep up with demand due to insufficient resources and infrastructure.

Africa’s Aging Population and Healthcare Woes

The median age in Africa is just under 20 years old, making it the continent with the youngest population in the world. However, this average age is expected to increase dramatically by 2050 if life expectancy increases and fertility rates decrease. If so, by 2050, over half (56%) of Africans will be approaching 50 years old!

Nonetheless, Africa currently has one of the lowest life expectancies in the world. According to the World Health Organization, in 2018, life expectancy at birth was as low as 50 years in Chad and as high as 74 years in Mauritius. The WHO also estimates that in 2021, 2.8 million children in sub-Saharan Africa died before reaching their fifth birthday, and about 17% of children under age five on the continent are underweight.

This is due to several factors including poor access to health care, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of doctors and nurses to meet the demands of the growing population. Unfortunately, there are many barriers that prevent many Africans from getting the medical treatment they need.

Introducing: The Global Health Markets Media & Expo

The Global Health Markets Media & Expo is a health business directory and digital marketing platform that specializes in medical, dental, health/wellness, and the global health industry supply chain. This directory is a prime platform for brand promotion and networking for all sectors of healthcare practice, dental practice, health and wellness, and supply chain operations and management.

The G.H.M. Media and Expo platform was founded to tackle the numerous challenges plaguing Africa's Healthcare system. The GHM Media & Expo team believes that while there are many challenges facing healthcare professionals in Africa, they are not insurmountable. They believe that these challenges can be overcome by working together as a united front with common goals. Some of these goals include:

• The provision of a networking avenue for all sectors of the healthcare practice, dental practice, health and wellness, and supply chain operations and management.

• Leveraging the power of collaborative partnership to raise funding through a network of community growth partners, community lifeline partners, community market sponsors, strategic healthcare support partners, corporate sponsors, events, and online fundraising campaigns.

• The improvement of healthcare delivery across Africa by the establishment of Micro clinics with a focus on outpatient care and Polyclinic Acute Care centers across continental Africa

• The improvement of the healthcare landscape across Africa by creating awareness of key issues affecting healthcare professionals across the continent; providing guidance on how they can improve their systems through best practices and creating opportunities for them to share their experiences with other professionals so that they can benefit from a global pool of knowledge and resources.

Conclusion

The future of Africa's healthcare system is within our reach. The growth of technology has already changed the global healthcare industry and for the first time in history, we’re seeing the gap between those with and without access to medical attention gradually reduce. If we can inspire enough people to come together to support initiatives like the GHM Media & Expo, then nothing can stop Africa from becoming the beacon of healthcare it deserves to be.

We hope that this article will serve as a starting point for further research into this topic by providing insight into some potential solutions for the planet’s most promising continent.
